510 510 CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING TO THE MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: Notice is hereby given that a Special Meeting of the City Council of the City of Austin will be held on the 26th day of August, 1957, at the Municipal Building, Eighth and Colorado, in Austin, Texas, at 3:00 P.M., for the purpose of meeting with a Committee from East Austin regarding a District Park; for considering the bids on the Contract No. 57-C-36 and other matters. M. Council Chamber, City Hall The meeting was called to order with Mayor Miller presiding. Roll call: Present: CouncilmenLong, Palmer, Pearson, White, Mayor Miller Absent: None Present also: W. T. Williams, Jr., City Manager; Doren R. Eskew, City Attorney; Reuben Rountree, Jr., Director of Public Works; Beverly Sheffield, Recreation Director. Members of the East Austin Committee present were Mrs. Estella White, Mrs. Howard McCall, Mrs. Josephine Alexander, Mrs. Johnnie Y. Rice, and Mrs. Johnnie Mae Franklin. The Mayor announced this was a special meeting for the purpose of meeting with a committee from East Austin regarding a District Park; for considering the bids on Contract No. 57-C-36, and to discuss the plans for an underpass on Lamar Boulevard at Third Street. The City Manager and Director of Recreation presented aerial maps of three tracts of land available for a park in this area. Tract I contained approximately 40 acres and is located on East 12th Street extending south to Oak Springs Drive and bounded on the east by Springdale Road and Webberville Road. Tract II contained approximately 23 acres and is located on the south side of East 19th Street, south to East 12th Street from Airport Boulevard to Redwood Street. Tract III contained approximately 28 acres and is located south of Heflin Drive between Springdale Road and Webberville Road, being north of Simms School. Discussion was held and the Committee stated they would like to look at these tracts of land and take this information back to their group and they would let the Council hear from them as soon as possible. 512 512 CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS Councilman Long offered the following resolution and moved its adoption: (RESOLUTION) WHEREAS, on August 23, 1957, the City of Austin received bids for the grading, finishing and placing of flexible base and other incidentals on Anderson Lane, Guadalupe Street and Purnell Drive Contract No. 57-C-36; and, WHEREAS, the bid of C. H. Lester in the sum of $5,357.76 was the lowest and best bid therefor, and the acceptance of such bid has been recommended by the Director of Public Works, and by the City Manager; Now, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the bid of C. H. Lester in the sum of $5,357.76 be and the same is hereby accepted, and W. T. Williams, Jr., City Manager of the City of Austin is hereby authorized and directed to execute a contract on behalf of the City of Austin with C. H. Lester. The motion, seconded by Councilman Pearson, carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Long, Palmer, Pearson, White, Mayor Miller Noes: None 1 The Director of Public Works presented tentative drawings for an underpass and traffic interchange on Lamar Boulevard from 5th Street south to the Lamar Bridge. The plans were discussed and the Mayor stated the city would work with the Highway Department and Railroad and proceed as rapidly as possible to build this underpass.
