Council Chamber, City Hall The meeting was called to order with Mayor Miller presiding. Roll call: Present: Councilmen Long, Palmer, Pearson, White, Mayor Miller Absent: None Present also: W. T. Williams, Jr., City Manager; Doren R. Eskew, City Attorney; Reuben Rountree, Jr., Director of Public Works. Invocation was delivered by DR. OLIN W. NAIL, Associate Pastor, St. John's Methodist Church, 2140 Allandale Road. Councilman White moved that the Minutes of the Meeting of November 21, 1957, be approved. The motion, seconded by Councilman Long, carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Long, Palmer, Pearson, White, Mayor Miller Noes: None CAPTAIN ROSEN presented JAMES G. BELVIN, WILLIE A. BREED, DOYLE E. HOBBS, WENDELL K. JOHNSON, BILL LANDIS, DAVID N. MCCREA, JOHN D. RUSSELL and LEONARD VANDERMAST, JR. who are in training for Police Work, and who will be graduated January 17th. LT. PETE WEAVER is the future Training Officer. The group was welcomed by the Mayor and Council. The ordinance was read the second time and Councilman White moved that the ordinance be passed to its third reading. The motion, seconded by Councilman Palmer, carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Long, Palmer, Pearson, White, Mayor Miller Noes: None CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS 832 832 status of streets under construction now, number of blocks completed, and all the information on paving be furnished the press and radio. The City Manager gave a report from two property owners about the rightof-way for the widening of West 35th Street--General J. W. Page, and Mr. Maurice Acers. The City Manager and City Attorney did not think the right-of-way acquisition would delay the paving any. The previous request of MR. KNOX WRIGHT to purchase two lots from the City was brought up. The City Attorney explained the unique status of these two lots on which the City had tax title and was acting as trustee for school and county taxes. He stated the property had been advertised for sale at auction, but no one came at that time, and Mr.Wright is the first bidder to come in, After discussion, Councilman Long moved that MR. WILLIAM T. WARD, be appointed Commissioner, and authorized to negotiate for the sale of Lots 17 and 18, Block 4, South Heights Addition to Mr. Knox Wright for not less than the total amount of taxes, penalty and interest and court costs due the City, County and State; to execute a deed to the property; to receive the proceeds of sale; and to disburse the proceeds to the taxing agencies.
