Council Chamber, City Hall The meeting was called to order with Mayor Miller presiding. Roll call: Present: Councilmen Long, Palmer, Pearson, White, Mayor Miller Absent: None Present also: W. T. Williams, Jr., City Manager; Doren R. Eskew, City Attorney; Reuben Rountree, Jr., Director of Public Works. The Mayor announced that this meeting was called for the purpose of discussing wage increases. The Assistant City Manager submitted and explained two schedules for proposed increases, and showing results of each. The employees covered in these schedules, and both proposals are as follows: Schedule 1 Schedule 2 Hoseman-Ladderman $25 8.3% $20 6.6% Driver $25 7.8% $20 6.2% Captain $30 8.8% $20 5.9% Dist. Chief $40 10.8% $40 10.0% Asst. The City Manager gave a report of a meeting he had with a group of firemen on the raise. The Council went over the standing s of the department heads in comparisons with other cities, and compared duties of various department heads with duties of those in other cities. The Mayor stated that the Council had been telling the public, even at CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS 441 the time of the bond issue, that taxes would have to be raised for the general housekeeping, and that they had been told that for the past six months. A public hearing was set for Tuesday, July 15th, at 3:00 P.M. to hear the public on these wage increases and tax increase.
