Council Chamber, City Hall The meeting was called to order with Mayor Pro-tem Pearson presiding. Roll call: Present: Councilmen Long, Palmer, White, Mayor Pro-tem Pearson Absent: Mayor Miller (due to illness) Present also: W. T. Williams, Jr., City Manager; Doren R. Eskew, City Attorney; Reuben Rountree, Jr., Director of Public Works. Invocation was delivered by FATHER JOHN PAYNE, St. Ignatius Church, 206 West Johanna. Councilman White moved that the Minutes of the Meeting of November 20, 1958, be approved. The motion, seconded by Councilman Palmer, carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Long, Palmer, White, Mayor Pro-tem Pearson Noes: None Absent: Mayor Miller Councilmanthongeintroduced the following ordinance and moved that it be published in accordance with Article 1, Section 6 of the Charter of the City of Austin: AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE EXTENSION OF CERTAIN BOUNDARY LIMITS OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN AND THE ANNEXATION OF CERTAIN ADDITIONAL TERRITORY CONSISTING OF 7.992 ACRES OF LAND, SAME BEING OUT OF AND A PART OF THE T. J. CHAMBERS GRANT, IN TRAVIS COUNTY, TEXAS, WHICH SAID ADDITIONAL TERRITORY LIES ADJACENT TO AND ADJOINS THE PRESENT BOUNDARY LIMITS OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN, IN PARTICULARS STATED IN THE ORDINANCE. Mayor Pro-tem Pearson introduced the following ordinance: AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 8 OF THE AUSTIN CITY CODE OF 1954 BY ADDING THERETO A NEW SECTION DESIGNATED SECTION 8.3-1 PERTAINING TO RECORDS OF CORPORATION COURT OVER TWO YEARS OLD BEING PRESERVED IN MICROFILM; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. The ordinance was read the first time and Councilman White moved that the rule be suspended and the ordinance passed to its second reading. Councilman Long moved that this permission be granted. The motion, seconded by Councilman Palmer, carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Long, Palmer, White, Mayor Pro-tem Pearson Noes: None Absent: Mayor Miller The Director of Public Works made a report on the Paving progress, stating that some of the streets shown on the report sent out yesterday, were being completed today. The Assistant City Manager made a report on the way plans were shaping up for the opening of the Auditorium, and stated it was working out very nicely. The Director of Public Works stated that the walks around the Auditorium would be finished up this afternoon or Friday; that as soon as the equipment was moved, that grass would be planted on the north and west sides by the end of next week. The City Manager reported that the representatives from the Shrine Circus had made a tour of the Auditorium and had said the Auditorium would make the finest place to present the circus in the state.
