Council Chamber, City Hall 417 417 The meeting was called to order with Mayor Pro-tem Palmer presiding. Roll call: Present: Councilmen Bechtol, Perry, White, Mayor Pro-tem Palmer Absent: Mayor Miller Present also: W. T. Williams, Jr., City Manager; Doren R. Eskew, City Attorney; Reuben Rountree, Jr., Director of Public Works; Robert A. Miles, Chief of Police Invocation was delivered by DR. EDMUND HEINSOHN, Minister Emeritus, University Methodist Church. MAYOR PRO-TEM PALMER introduced MRS. TOM MILLER, Austin's First Lady, who represented MAYOR TOM MILLER. The Mayor Pro-tem stated as soon as the Mayor returned to the City, it was hoped to have a "TOM MILLER DAY" and the whole city of Austin would turn out to honor him. He read a resolution to be adopted later in the meeting recognizing MAYOR MILLER in his public service and honoring him. MR. O. B. MCKOWN commended COUNCILMAN HUB BECHTOL and presented him a token of appreciation from hundreds of his friends. COUNCILMAN BECHTOL stated the City will have as fine a City Council as any city in the United States in this new Council, and expressed his faith in the people of Austin and expressed appreciation for his opportunity to serve the past two years. DR. E. H. GIVENS said East Austin would appear ungrateful if it did not have a word of appreciation for the years of service of MAYOR MILLER; as East Austin was always included when the Mayor said "Austin". Councilman Bechtol moved that the Council adjourn.
