=CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS Special Meeting August 19, 1963 3:00 P.M. Council Chamber, City Hall The meeting was called to order with Mayor Palmer presiding. Roll call: Present: Councilmen LaRue, Long, Shanks, Mayor Palmer Absent: Councilman White Present also: W. T. Williams, Jr., City Manager; Doren R. Eskew, City Attorney; Victor R. Schmidt, Assistant Director Water and Sewer Department The Mayor announced this meeting was called for the purpose of awarding a contract for the installation of the South Austin Outfall on Riverside Drive from about 650' west of East Bouldin Creek to South First Street. The Council had before it the following: "August 2, 1963 "Mr. W. T. Williams, Jr. City Manager Austin, Texas "Dear Mr. Williams: "Sealed bids were received until 11:00 A.M., Friday, August 2, 1963, at the Office of the Director of the Water and Sewer Department for the INSTALLATION OF THE SOUTH AUSTIN OUTFALL ON RIVERSIDE DRIVE FROM ABOUT 650 FEET WEST OF EAST BOULDIN CREEK TO SOUTH FIRST STREET. The bids were publicly opened and read in the Second Floor Conference Room of the Municipal Building. "The following is a tabulation of bids received: "FIRM Bland Construction Company J. C. Truehart, San Antonio Austin Engineering Company Gibraltar Construction Company, Dallas Marvin Turner Engineers Estimate AMOUNT WORKING DAYS $142,897.60 90 150,366.14 90 246,258.00 120 262,719.00 200 160,000.00 CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS August 19, 1963 "It is recommended that the contract be awarded to Bland Construction Company on their low bid of $142,897.60 with 90 working days. "Yours truly, s/ Victor R. Schmidt, Jr., Assistant Director Water and Sewer Department s/ Albert R. Davis, Director Water and Sewer Department" The City Manager explained the two methods that could be used, and the recommendation of the Director of Water Utilities. It was his recommendation also that the contract be awarded to Bland Construction Company on their low bid. Councilman Shanks offered the following resolution and moved its adoption (RESOLUTION) WHEREAS, bids were received by the City of Austin on August 2, 1963, for the installation of the South Austin Outfall on Riverside Drive from about 650 feet West of East Bouldin Creek to South First Street; and, WHEREAS, the bid of Bland Construction Company, in the sum of $142,897.60, was the lowest and best bid therefor, and the acceptance of such bid has been recommended by the Director of Water and Sewer Department of the City of Austin, and by the City Manager; Now, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the bid of Bland Construction Company, in the sum of $142,897.60, be and the same is hereby accepted, and that W. T. Williams, Jr., City Manager of the City of Austin, be and he is hereby authorized to execute a contract, on behalf of the City, with Bland Construction Company. The motion, seconded by Councilman Long, carried by the following vote: Ayes: Noes: Councilmen LaRue, Long, Shanks, Mayor Palmer None Absent: Councilman White There being no further business, Councilman LaRue moved that the Council adjourn.
