Council Chamber, City Hall The meeting was called to order with Mayor Akin presiding. Roll call: Present: Councilmen Janes, LaRue, Long, Nichols, Mayor Akin Absent: None MAYOR AKIN announced this special meeting was called for the purpose of passing through their second readings the ordinances presented on September 25, 1967. (The ordinance adopting the Budget for the Fiscal Year 1967-1968, Ordinance No. 670925-A; the ordinance levying ad valorem taxes for 1967, Ordinance No. 670925-B; also ordinances concerning wage and salary adjustments; and ordinances making adjustments in fees and charges.) Mayor Akin brought up the following ordinance for its second reading: ORDINANCE NO. 670925-A AN ORDINANCE ADOPTING AND APPROVING THE BUDGET FOR THE FISCAL YEAR BEGINNING OCTOBER 1, 1967, AND TERMINATING SEPTEMBER 30, 1968, AND MAKING APPROPRIATIONS FOR EACH DEPARTMENT, PROJECT AND ACCOUNT; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. The Ordinance was read the second time and Councilman LaRue moved that the ordinance be passed to its third reading. The motion, seconded by Councilman Janes, carried by the following vote: Ayes: Mayor Akin, Councilmen Janes, LaRue Noes: Councilmen Long, Nichols Mayor Akin brought up the following ordinance for its second reading: ORDINANCE NO. 670925-B AN ORDINANCE FIXING AND LEVYING MUNICIPAL AD VALOREM TAXES FOR THE CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS, FOR THE YEAR 1967, AND FOR EACH YEAR THEREAFTER UNTIL OTHERWISE PROVIDED; DIRECTING THE ASSESSMENT AND COLLECTION THEREOF; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. i =CITY OF AUSTIN. TEXAS- September 26, 1967 : The ordinance was read the second time and Councilman Janes moved that the ordinance be passed to its third reading. The motion, seconded by Councilman LaRue, carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Janes, LaRue, Mayor Akin Noes: Councilmen Long, Nichols The Council had before it ordinances concerning wage and salary adjustments, one ordinance covering Police Department, Fire Fighter Division of the Fire Department, and Fire Prevention Division of the Fire Department, Ordinance No. 670926-A and one pertaining to the classified employees, Ordinance No. 670926-B. Councilman Long stated she wanted to vote for salary increases and the discussion held yesterday had shown this to be her intent also it was her intent to have a cross-the-board increase in salaries and wages for city employees, and these ordinances carry out that desire. She said she attempted to show how to raise this money, and since the Council majority had refused to go along with her proposition, she felt she could vote for the employees' raises without having to justify by not having voted for the other two ordinances. Mayor Akin introduced the following ordinance: AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 620510-H PERTAINING TO SALARIES FOR CADETS AND CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES IN THE POLICE DEPARTMENT; TO SALARIES FOR TRAINEES AND CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES IN THE FIRE FIGHTER DIVISION AND FIRE PREVENTION DIVISION OF THE FIRE DEPARTMENT; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. The ordinance was read the first time and Councilman LaRue moved that the rule be suspended and the ordinance passed to its second reading.
