After some discussion, City Manager Tinstman suggested the dump be moved westward about 100 yards and another site be considered in the meantime. CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS March 13, 1969 The motion, seconded by Councilman Nichols, carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Janes, LaRue, Long, Nichols, Mayor Akin Noes: None NATURE TRAIL Councilman Long offered the following resolution and moved its adoption: (RESOLUTION) WHEREAS, the City Council, by resolution dated February 21, 1968, has approved a comprehensive plan for the development of the shores of Town Lake, a primary feature of said plan being a "nature trail" from Longhorn Crossing to Red Bud Trail; and, WHEREAS, the development of such nature trail from Deep Eddy to Red Bud Trail would provide public access to a beautiful area of Town Lake and be highly desirable as a source of public recreation; Now, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the City Manager be, and he is hereby, directed and authorized to request a permit from the University of Texas which would allow the City of Austin to construct and maintain at no cost to the University of Texas, such a trail, together with fixtures incidential to such trail in the area between the water's edge and the University of Texas fence separating the Housing Project and the biological research area from the water of Town Lake, and in and adjacent to said waters from 20 to 75 feet in depth where such fence does not exist; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That copies of this Resolution be presented by the City Manager to the Chancellor of the University of Texas and the President of the University of Texas The motion, seconded by Councilman Nichols, carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Janes, LaRue, Long, Nichols, Mayor Akin Noes: None PARADE PERMIT AND BANNER REQUEST Councilman Long moved the Council grant the request of the University Committee to End War in Viet Nam for a parade permit on April 13, 1969 and placement of a banner at 19th and San Jacinto, April 7-14. The Council agreed that the immunity policy was beneficial to legislators and would continue to be in effect. APPOINTMENT OF JUDGE Councilman Long moved the Council appoint Mr. L. C. Howard in Precinct 243 as Presiding Judge and the other suggested clerks as needed.
