COUNCIL CHAMBER, CITY HALL The meeting was called to order with Mayor LaRue presiding. Roll Call: Present: Councilman Gage, Janes, Johnson, MacCorkle, Price Mayor LaRue Absent: None Mayor LaRue opened the Council Meeting which was continued from April 1, 1971, until 9:00 A.M., April 5, 1971, announcing the Council would canvass the returns of the election held on April 3, 1971. Don Butler, City Attorney, stated the Council was to canvass the returns, and that it was at the Councills discretion as to what method it would use. The City Attorney noted that the Number Four boxes were available. Because, the returns appeared to be in order, Councilman Gage suggested that only a sampling of the precincts be checked by the Council. ELECTION RESULTS ACCEPTED Councilman Gage moved the Council close the canvassing of the votes and adopt a resolution certifying the results of the election, recognizing the number of votes cast regarding the non-binding referendum on fluoridation, and declaring the winners and run-off candidates as follows: Mayor Place No. Place No, Place No. Place No. 2 RUN-OFF Roy Butler S.H. Friedman Wick Fowler Berl Handcox Harry Smith vote: The motion, seconded by Councilman MacCorkle, carried by the following Ayes: Councilman Gage, Janes, Johnson, MacCorkle, Price, Mayor LaRue Noes: None Councilman Gage moved thattthe Council instruct the administration to prepare an ordinance declaring a run-off election on May 1, 1971, to fill vacancie in Place No. 2, No. 5, No. 6. The motion, seconded by Councilman MacCorkle, carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Gage, Janes, Johnson, MacCorkle, Price Mayor LaRue Noes: None INVITATION TO IN-COMING COUNCIL Councilman Gage moved that the Council invite the winners and participants in the run-off election to attend the Council meetings for the next few weeks so that they might become familiar with the Council procedure. The motion, seconded by Councilman Price, carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Gage, Janes, Johnson, MacCorkle, Price Mayor LaRue Noes: None ADJOURNMENT The Council then adjourned.
