tfo .CITY OP AUSTIN, TEXAS V MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS Recessed Meeting of April 29, 1971 MAY 3, 1971 9:00 A.M. Council Chamber, City Hall The meeting was called to order with Mayor LaRue presiding. Roll call! Present: Councilmen Gage, Johnson, MacCorkle, Price, Mayor LaRue Absent: Councilman Janes Mayor LaRue opened the Council Meeting, which was continued from April 29, 1971, until 9:00 A.M., May 3, 1971, announcing the Council would canvass the Returns bf the Run-Off Election held on May 1st, The City Attorney stated the Council was to canvass the returns, and that it was in the Council's discretion as to what extent it felt necessary to go through the figures, so long as it is satisfied that the returns are accurately tabulated and are in good order. The City Attorney noted that the Number 4 boxes were available. \i Mayor LaRue announced each Council member had a list of the returns in the Council Run-Off Election, May 1, 1971. Janes. The Mayor at this time called attendlton to the absence of Councilman Councilman Price inquired if there were any Irregularities. The City Attorney responded he was not aware of Illegal voting; and that no irregularities had been called to his attention. The Mayor asked if there were any questions concerning any precinct or any return. After discussion Councilman Gage moved the Council adopt a Resolution certifying the results of the Run-Off Election declaring the winners as follows: Place No. 2 Place No. 5 Place No. 6 DICK NICHOLS JEFF FRIEDMAN BERL HANDCOX The motion, seconded by Councilman Price, carried by the following vote: =CITY OP AUSTIN. TEXA! May 3, 1971 Ayes: Councilmen Gage, Johnson, MacCorkle, Price, Mayor LaRue Noes: None Absent! Councilman Janes Councllmen Gage and MacCorkle commended the City Manager on the efficiency of handling the election at the Electric Building. FLUORIDATION The City Manager inquired of the Council if the matter of Fluoridation was to be on the Agenda; if the Council so desires, it would be placed on the Agenda for the coming meeting. He asked if there should be (1) A Resolution for Fluoridation, or (2) Council Discussion. Councilman Price suggested leaving it off at this time. Councilman Gage stated Councilman Janes had asked that this item be on the Agenda, and he, personally, would like to see it placed on the Agenda either for action or discussion. Mayor LaRue stated he would have agreed to the request to place it on the Agenda. Councilman MacCorkle stated if such is to go into effect, it should be decided upon by the Council after expert witnesses on both sides; and if ever there were a problem that needed a public hearing with expert witnesses on both sides, this program was one. Councilman Price did not want to vote to force it on the people. The City Manager pointed out it would be in the fall before such could to into effect. The Council took no action to place this matter on the Agenda. ADJOURNMENT Councilman Price moved the Council adjourn. The motion, seconded by Councilman Johnson, carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilman Gage, Johnson, MacCorkle, Price, Mayor LaRue Noes: None Absent: Councilman Janes APPROVED Mayor City Clerk
