TEXAS MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS Recessed Meeting of May 15, 1971 MAY 15, 1971 Electric Building Auditorium 301 West Avenue MAYOR LaRUE called the meeting to order announcing this was the recessed meeting from May 13th and the Special Meeting for the purpose of inaugurating the incoming Council. Councilman Stuart MacCorkle: was absent as he was out of the City. Also absent was Former Councilman Atkisftn who had resigned as Councilman. The invocation was delivered by REVEREND WILLIAM C. ROWLAND, JR., University Christian Church. Mayor LaRue recognized Honorable CHARLES 0. BETTS, Judge,. 98th District Court, and Honorable K. K. WOODLEY, Presiding Judge, State Court of Criminal Appeals. Judge CHARLES 0. BETTS administered the Oath of Office to Honorable ROY BUTLER as Mayor; and Judge K. K, WOODLEY assisted Judge Betts in administering the Oaths of Office to the following as Councilmen: Honorable BUD DRYDEN Place 1 Honorable DICK NICHOLS Place 2 Honorable DAN LOVE Place 3 Honorable LOWELL LEBERMANN Place 4 Honorable JEFFREY M. fRIEBKAN Place 5 Honorable BERL L. HANDCOX Place 6 Mayor Butler took the Chair and presided, announcing that all Councilmen were installed formally. Each member took his respective seat according to his Place Number. The Mayor welcomed those in the audience and expressed gratitude for their presence at this ceremony. Mayor BUTLER initiated the awarding 'of placques in recognition of the services of those who had Just finished two or more years as Mayor or Councilman. The Council unanimously elected Councilman DAN LOVE as Mayor Pro-Tern. RECOGNITION OF DIGNATARIES Mayor BUTLER introduced Former President LYNDON B.
