Voters Approve Water, Reject Nuclear Power

:CITY OF AUSTIN. TEXAS MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS Special Meeting September 11, 1972 5:00 P. M. COUNCIL CHAMBER, CITY HALL Mayor Butler announced this was a Special Meeting of the City Council called for the purpose of adopting a resolution canvassing returns and declaring results of a City Bond Election. All members of the Council had signed the Consent to Meeting. Roll Call: Present: Councilman Nichols, Mayor Fro Tern Love, Councllmen Lebermann, Friedman, Mayor Butler Absent: Counoilmen Handcox, Dryden City Attorney Butler announced the Council had before It copies of the returns of the various precincts. Mr. Norman Barker, Director of Finance; Mr. Ed Rosen, Accounting Supervisor; and Mr. Bill A. Harrison, Auditor, had verified the figures as to the totals and could present testimony to this extent. Mayor Butler ascertained that Messrs. Barker, Rosen, and Harrison had checked these figures to the best of their ability and they acknowledged the figures were accurate. The City Attorney stated he found the count to be in order. Fluorldation Mr, Bill Harrison gave the results of the canvass of returns on the Referendum Proposition - Fluoridatlon of the public water supply as follows: Votes FOR Fluoridatlon 16,964 Total Votes AGAINST Fluoridation 12,687 29,651 Councilman Lebermann moved the Council adopt the resolution accepting the results of the referendum for fluor idat Ion of the public water supply and directing the City Administration to proceed to initiate the fluorldation of the public water supply; and announcing there would be no more hearings, as this Is In line with the Council's previous commitments. The motion, seconded by Mayor Pro Tern Love, carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilman Nichols, Mayor Pro Tern Love, Councllmen Lebermann, Friedman, Mayor Butler Noes: None Absent: Councilmen Dryden, Handcox =CITY OF AUSTIN. Mayor Pro Tern Love moved the Council adopt the resolution as recommended. The motion, seconded by Councilman Lebermann, carried by the following vote!
