Council Chambers, 301 West Second Street, Austin, Texas Memorandum To: City Council Carole Keeton McClellan Mayor John Treviño, Jr. Mayor Pro Tem Council Members Larry Deuser Roger Duncan Richard Goodman Ron Mullen Charles E. Urdy Nicholas M. Meiszer City Manager Grace Monroe City Clerk Mayor McClellan called the meeting to order, noting the absence of Councilman Goodman. Mayor McClellan stated that this was an Emergency Special Called Council Meeting for the purpose of considering the following: 1. Taking a vote on the proposed property tax rate increase. 2. Setting a public hearing on the proposed property tax rate increase. 3. Publishing notices on the proposed property tax rate increase. Regarding the "Notice of Public Hearing on Tax Increase," City Attorney Albert DeLaRosa stated that the Research & Budget Department had informed him that the City Manager's proposed budget called for a 7.67% tax increase. If the Council placed that percentage increase in the Notice, then that amount could not be exceeded. Motion Councilman Mullen moved the Council set the amount at 7.98%. Mayor McClellan seconded the motion. Substitute Motion Councilman Duncan offered a substitute motion that the amount be set at 7.99%. The motion, seconded by Councilman Deuser, carried by a 6-0 Vote, Councilman Goodman absent. : : Council Memo 2 PUBLIC HEARING SET September 7, 1982 The Council, on Mayor Pro Tem Trevino's motion, Councilman Duncan's second, set a public hearing on the proposed property tax rate increase for 7:00 p.m., September 16, 1982. (6-0 Vote, Councilman Goodman absent) (Public hearing to be held in the Electric Building Auditorium) The Council agreed to publish notices on the proposed property tax rate increase in both English and Spanish with no explanatory notice as had been done previously. ADJOURNMENT The Council adjourned at 5:15 p.m.
