Meiszer City Manager Elden Aldridge Acting City Clerk TY OF AU FOUNDED 1839 Austin City Council MINUTES For EMERGENCY SPECIAL CALLED MEETING JUNE 17, 1983 4:00 Ρ.Μ. - Council Chambers, 301 West Second Street, Austin, Texas Memorandum To: Mayor Pro Tem Trevino called to order the Emergency Special Called Meeting of the Council scheduled for 4:00p.m., noting the absence of Mayor Mullen. Mayor Pro Tem Trevino announced the purpose of the meeting is to consider allocating $1,378,000 of CDBG Emergency Job Bill Funds. He reminded Council that this is not a public hearing, the hearing has been held and closed, but Council can recognize staff and members of the audience in the event they have questions. "Yesterday, there was a motion and a second to accept, with a minor amendment, the City Manager's recommendation. After that discussion ensued about other options," Councilmember Spaeth said the money should be used for Jobs which will accomplish something and leave something behind rather than just give someone money to take and spend. : Council discussed the Manager's recommendations which were: Provide for rehabilitation of 5 houses through the Standard Rehabilitation Program, $70,000; Provide for a training facility for local industry/business, high technology, $400,000; renovation of Health Department Building, $300,000; Expand St. John's Health Clinic, $300,000; and Program Administration, $208,000. Council also discussed recommendations distributed by Council Aides. CITY CLERK DID NOT RECEIVE A COPY. Councilmember Shipman said she favors an infant-parent facility and supports it because it will be a long term community benefit. Council discussed the Council Aide recommendation that some money be spent to hire workers to clean parks. 1 Council agreed to continue their discussion at a Special Called Meeting on Sunday, June 19, 1983 at 8:30 p.m. in the Council Chamber. Council adjourned its meeting at 5:10 p.m.
