Mayor Mullen called to order the Special Called Meeting of the Council, noting the absence of Councilmember Duncan. The Mayor announced the purpose of the meeting is to have a public hearing on recommendations of the Citizen's Airport Task Force. Mr. Pike Powers, chairman of the Airport Task Force, said after long study, the task force recommends relocating the Municipal Airport to an area outside of the City limits which would require the acquisition of 530 acres of land. He said they recommend Mueller Airport site be sold and no longer used. John Cutright, member of the Airport Task Force, presented the minority report. He said they recommend keeping the airport where it is as the facility for both air carriers and general aviation. Commissioner Jimmy Snell said the airport should be moved. He did not recommend where it should be moved. Lee Cook, representing the Chamber of Commerce, said they favor relocation of all airport needs and facilities and urged the relocation. Several other people spoke. Reasons cited for moving the airport were too much noise in residential area, too much noise for school children trying to study in the flight pattern and danger of a crash in the residential areas. Reasons cited for keeping the airport where it is are the convenience, safety (especially stressed by pilots), and the fact they feel there is no need to move the airport to an inaccessible site. Several people said the question should be put to a vote of the people. : Council Meeting 2 11/27/84 Citizens speaking who favor the moving of the airport were: Ronald K.
