Urdy Jorge Carrasco City Manager Elden Aldridge City Clerk FOUNDED 1639 Austin City Council MINUTES For APRIL 8, 1985 10:00 Α.Μ. - SPECIAL CALLED MEETING Council Chambers, 307 West Second Street, Austin, Texas Memorandum To: Mayor Mullen called to order the Special Called Meeting of the Council, noting the absence of Councilmember Spaeth. Mayor Mullen announced the purpose of the meeting was to: 1. Consider a resolution canvassing the returns and declaring the results of the April 6, 1985 General Municipal Election. 2. Consider an ordinance calling a runoff election for Saturday, May 4, 1985. Jeff Gunter, Central Counting Station Judge, referred Council to their copy of the Central Counting Station Report. Mr. Gunter detailed problems which occurred in the absentee balloting and made suggestions for improvement. Mr. Gunter also cited an apparent computer operator error when some of the punch card ballots had been loaded into the computer's card reader backward. Motion The Council, on Councilmember Shipman's motion, Councilmember Duncan's second, adopted a resolution canvassing the returns and declaring the results of the April 6, 1985, General Municipal Election, as follows: '! : Council Memo 2 4/8/85 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, pursuant to Ordinance No. 850314-T duly passed by the City Council of the City of Austin, a General Municipal Election of the qualified voters of the City was held in the City of Austin on April 6, 1985, for the election of a Mayor and six Councilmembers for the two-year term commencing May 15, 1985, and for the submission of a proposition seeking voter authorization for the issuance of $54,000,000 utility system revenue supported bonds for upgrading the quality of the discharge from the City's sewer treatment plants, and for the submission of a proposition seeking voter authorization for the lease of parkland at Lake Walter E. Long Metropolitan Park to the Austin Aqua Festival; and, WHEREAS, by virtue of said General Municipal Election, the official returns from the election officials and the canvass thereof by the City Council, it appears that the following votes were received at said general municipal election as indicated below, to-wit: MAYOR Mike Poulson William M. FOR AGAINST 50,956 12,826 and, WHEREAS, it appears that Mark Rose, Sally Shipman, John Trevino, Jr. and Charles Urdy have received a majority of all votes cast at said election for the respective offices of Councilmember, Place 1, Place 3, Place 5 and Place 6; and, WHEREAS, it appears that a majority of the resident qualified electors voting at said election have voted in favor of Propositions one and two; Now, Therefore, !
