Urdy Jorge Carrasco City Manager Elden Aldridge City Clerk FOUNDED 1889 Austin City Council MINUTES For MAY 15, 1985 7:00 Ρ.Μ. - AUDITORIUM SHORES Council Chambers, 307 West Second Street, Austin, Texas Memorandum To: Mayor Mullen called to order the meeting of the Council at their 7:00 p.m. scheduled meeting on Auditorium Shores for the purpose of swearing in ceremonies for the Mayor and Members of the City Council, and election of Mayor Pro Tem. Mayor Mullen presented outgoing Councilmember Roger Duncan with a plaque citing appreciation for his four years of service as a member of the City Council. Councilmember Duncan expressed appreciation for the plaque. Mayor Mullen then asked Mayor Pro Tem Trevino to accept Councilmember Mark Spaeth's plaque on Mr. Spaeth's behalf. Mayor Pro Tem Trevino spoke for Councilmember Spaeth, who had served a two year term on the Council. He could not attend the ceremony, due to illness. Mayor Mullen asked Mayor Pro Tem Trevino to take the chair and left the stage. (Mayor Mullen had received a plaque from City Manager Jorge Carrasco, honoring his eight years of service as Councilmember and Mayor, prior to the official opening of the meeting.) Mayor Pro Tem Trevino introduced Mayor Cooksey, who in turn introduced members of the Council, Mark Rose, Smoot Carl-Mitchell, Sally Shipman, George Humphrey, John Trevino and Charles Urdy. Jorge Carrasco announced that the Honorable Harley Clark, Judge of the 250th State District Court will administer the Oath of Office to the 1985-87 City Council. Judge Clark administered the oath of office. ت Council Memo 2 5/15/85 Mayor Cooksey announced, "As first official act as Mayor of the City of Austin, I open the floor to nomination for Mayor Pro Tem." Motion The Council, on Councilmember Shipman's motion, Councilmember Rose's second, approved the nomination of Councilmember Trevino as Mayor Pro Tem to serve during the 1985-87 term. (7-0 Vote) Mayor Cooksey introduced Senator Gonzalo Barrientos who remarked upon the installation of the new Council and the challenges they have in the City of Austin. ADJOURNMENT The meeting of the Council was adjourned at 8:40 p.m.
