TYOF AUST FOUNDID 1829 Austin City Council MINUTES For May 16, 1989 Council Chambers, 307 West Second Street, Austin, Texas SPECIAL CALLED MEETING - 4:00 Ρ.Μ. Mayor Cooke called to order the special called meeting of the Council at 4:52 P.M., noting the absence of Councilmembers Nofziger and Urdy. EXECUTIVE SESSION Mayor Cooke announced, during the regular meeting which began at 3:00 P.M., that Council would enter into executive session pursuant to Article 6252-17, Texas Revised Civil Statutes Annotated, and discuss executive session matters listed on the regular agenda and this meeting agenda, matters of land acquisition, litigation and for personnel matters. No final action or decision or vote by the City Council will be taken on any subject or matter unless specifically listed on the agenda for the meeting. Regular Meeting Pending Litigation - Section 2, Paragraph e (a) City of Austin v. Houston Lighting and Power This Special Called Meeting Land Acquisition - Section 2, Paragraph f (a) Status of Convention Center Property Acquistion RECESS Council recessed for executive session from 4:52 to 6:50 Ρ.Μ. Mayor Cooke announced no action would be taken as a result of discussion during executive session. STATUS REPORT ON CONVENTION CENTER PROJECT Jim Smith, Special Projects Coordinator, and David Armbrust presented the status report on the convention center project. No action was taken on a resolution authorizing the City Manager to take appropriate action to acquire the property needed for the convention center. LEGISLATIVE UPDATE Gwen Webb, Acting Director, Intergovernmental Affairs, reported Council Memo 2 5/16/89 on House Bills 316, 913 and 3187. She also discussed SB 1707 which concerns the airport and HB 1546 which is Texas Water Commission review. CITY DEPARTMENT REORGANIZATION City Manager Barnett presented a reorganization and service levels summit with a discussion of City department reorganization by reducing the number of departments from 26 to 20. She said she wants to review her proposals with the members of the City Council and boards and commissions and bring them back to Council for approval. BRACKENRIDGE TRACT The Council, on Mayor Pro Tem Shipman's motion, Councilmember Barnstone's second, adopted a resolution approving the Brackenridge Tract proposal. (4-0 Vote, Councilmember Humphrey out of the room, Councilmembers Urdy and Nofziger absent) ADJOURNMENT Council adjourned its meeting at 7:50 Ρ.Μ.
