Austin City Council MINUTES For SPECIAL CALLED MEETING - August 24, 1989 - 10:00 A.M. FIRST FLOOR ASSEMBLY ROOM - TOWN LAKE CENTER - 721 BARTON SPRINGS ROAD Council Chambers, 307 lAfcsi Second Street, Austin, Texas • . Mayor Cooke called to order the special called meeting of the Council, noting the absence of Councilmember Urdy. Mayor Cooke announced the purpose of the meeting was to hold a worksession on several items. Convention Center Update Mayor Cooke, Chairperson, Convention Center Sub-committee, outlined proposed future agenda items concerning the convention center. He said there will be a bond sale on October 5, 1989. Austin Convention and Visitor's Bureau Joe Lessard, Assistant City Manager, reviewed the creation of a new City of Austin department fashioned after San Antonio's convention and visitor's bureau. Kim Peterson also discussed the creation of a new department. Item Postponed Council postponed discussion of the Anti-Apartheid Ordinance revisions. No date was set. ADJOURNMENT * The meeting was adjourned at 11:25 A.M.
