POLNDID 1039 Austin City Council MINUTES For SPECIAL CALLED MEETING - January 10, 1990 - "CITY COUNCIL IN CONCERT" 5:00 Ρ.Μ. Council Chambers, 307 West Second Street. Austin, Texas Mayor Cooke called to order the special called meeting of the Council, noting the presence of all Councilmembers. The welcoming and opening remarks were made by Mayor Cooke who discussed, the accomplishments made thus far for and by the City of Austin. Mayor Pro Tem Shipman addressed her remarks to the first three babies who were born in the City in 1990, and forecast what their future would be in Austin. i Councilmemeber Nofziger commented on the arts and music segment of the City and expressed satisfaction with things done for them. Councilmember Carl-Mitchell talked about the positive accomplishments of the Council and City government. A revitalization of the downtown area and the possiblity of a department store in the central business district is one of the aims of Councilmember Humphrey. He would also like to see a new golf course. Loss of small business and the wasting of money was the theme of Councilmember Barnstone's remarks. Councilmember Urdy said the Council needs to pull together and work as a whole body toward the betterment of Austin. After a musical selection by Bobby Bridger entitled "Heal in the Wisdom" and closing remarks by Mayor Cooke, the meeting was adjourned at 6:00 P.M. :
