OFAUST FOURDIS Austin City Council MINUTES For August 28, 1990 - SPECIAL CALLED MEETING - PUBLIC HEARING 1990-91 BUDGET MURCHISON MIDDLE SCHOOL CAFETERIA, 3700 NORTH HILLS DRIVE - 6:30 Ρ.Μ. 1 Mayor Cooke called to order the meeting of the Council, noting the absence of Councilmembers Carl-Mitchell and Nofziger. The Mayor announced the purpose of the meeting was to have a public hearing on the 1990-91 Operating Budget. Mayor Cooke explained several items in the budget which were illustrated with charts. Speaker's cards are on file in the City Clerk's office. Topics of discussion were: Project Courage, a parking garage for the Senior Activity Center, support for a convention in Austin for National Commission for Women in 1991, leaving the tax rate as is or increasing it, Discovery Hall, cut out pencil pushers in City government, sell the Electric Utility to a private investor, electric rates, Sharir Dance Company, restore previous library hours, finish fixing Spicewood Springs Road from Loop 360 to Mesa, not enough zoning inspectors, cut Conservation Service Department, cut Council salaries, delete support for bikeway for Circle C, reduce City employees, out of town residents should pay higher golf fees, community education, everything in the budget should be cut, provide basics and not frills, raises for employees as cost of living went up 5% last year, and increase the environmental staff. The meeting was adjourned at 9:05 Ρ.Μ.
