OF AUST FOUNDED 1080 Austin City Council MINUTES For February 20, 1991 Special Called Meeting Brackenridge Hospital 1 ! i Betty Himmelblau, Chair, Hospital Board called to order the meeting of the joint work session of the Brackenridge Hospital Board and the Austin City Council on Wednesday, February 20, 1991, at 5:50 p.m. in the Hospital Board Room on the Third Floor of Brackenridge Hospital, 601 East 15th Street, Austin, Texas. Mayor Cooke expressed his appreciation to the Hospital Board for inviting the Councilmembers and noted that all were present. The Mayor also called the meeting to order, on behalf of the Austin City Council. Betty Himmelblau announced the purpose of the meeting was: A Presentation by The National Association of Public Hospitals and introduced Larry Gage and Anne Camper. Larry Gage and Anne Camper made their presentation concerning Brackenridge Hospital. The presentation offered overviews of the structures of public hospitals, reorganization, national comparison with NAPH National Members, comparisons with other Texas City-owned hospitals and reorganization options for Brackenridge. The advantages and disadvantages a reorganization would present were discussed. Indigent care is a main concern among Councilmembers and various sources of indigent care funding were prosented. Motion The Council, on Councilmember Barnstone's motion, Mayor Cooke's second, directed the City Manager to pursue implementation of governance options. (7-0 Vote) The Council agreed to further discuss the study of the feasibility of purchasing a Brackenridge professional office building in Executive Session on February 21, 1991. Appointments were made to the City Council Subcommittee on Brackenridge Hospital. Those appointed were Councilmembers Barnstone and Nofziger and Mayor Pro Tem Urdy.
