1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. FOUNDED 1024 Austin City Council MINUTES SPECIAL CALLED MEETING - April 21, 1992 CONVENTION CENTER SUBCOMMITTEE 8:30 Α.Μ. 3RD FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM, MUNICIPAL BLDG. Mayor Todd called to order the meeting of the Convention Center Subcommittee, noting the presence of Councilmembers Garcia, Nofziger and Reynolds. Project Status The project status was reported to Council by Nathan Schneider. He said the chiller was ready to go, carpet will be laid and painting done. The kitchen is being finalized and Red River will be re-paved, as well as the sidewalks and the bridge will be re-built. Financial Update Larry Anderson reported that there is a strong bed tax and the figures are 9.7% ahead of Cooper-Lybrand's projections. Sales Update Mayo Dikelsky presented the Sales Update, which is on file in the City Clerk's office. Status of Contracts Chris Fessler reported on the status of contracts and said the negotiations have been completed on many contracts and the "checks are in the mail". MBE/WBE Report + Monty Goff presented the report, which is on file in the City Clerk's office. Grand Opening Update Plans for the grand opening were discussed. There will be free tours during the week. The entertainment segment will be a $35.00 combined ticket with Texas entertainment in one section of the convention center and a concert in another section. Councilmember Garcia objected to the price of the ticket. He said it was too high for the average citizen. MINUTES 1 4/21/92 : : : : 7. 8. 9. FFB Purchases Chris Fessler reported on FFE purchases. She said the major packages are all complete, on schedule and on budget, so far. Audio Visual Services It was reported that an RFP has been issued. Security Services: Sam Driggs reported that there will be two types of security needed. The convention center may have its own staff of 6. There will be more needed for events security and these will be hired by bid which will need to have tight specifications. 10. Heritage/Tourism Mr. Driggs reported on the Sixth Street Sidewalk improvements. 11. Consolidation of Convention Center Subcommittee with East 6th Street Subcommittee Assistant City Manager Joe Lessard reported that these two subcommittees are ready to be combined to become the Downtown Committee. Council agreed and said the meetings should be at the East 6th Street Subcommittee time. 12. Next Meeting Place of the next meeting will be determined later, but it will probably be at either at the Convention Center or the Trask House. 13. (Addendn) Consider Parking at Palmer Auditorium and City Coliseun Mr. Driggs said, in his opinion, there should be paid parking for the control of the parking lots at Palmer and the City Coliseum. After discussion, Mayor Todd said there should be a public hearing on the rate. He suggested the charge should be low to pay for the maintenance of the lot and also unauthorized use of the lot should be discouraged. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 10:15 Α.Μ.
