Southwest Parkway: Future Study & Task Force

Monday, February 3, 1997 special called
  • The council held a public hearing regarding a proposal to close one side of Southwest Parkway.
  • Instead of making an immediate decision on the proposed closure, a resolution was adopted to commission a comprehensive study into Southwest Parkway's environmental and financial impacts.
  • A new task force, comprised of all interested stakeholders, was established to develop solutions for the Parkway's challenges.
  • An attempt to prevent this new task force from considering lane closures as an option was rejected, indicating that potential closures could still be discussed in the future.
