(Supplemental funding is available from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Policing Services (COPS), Universal Hiring Program, with an anticipated start date of October 1, 1999 for the first 25 officers. A cash match of $3,517,847 will be required over a four-year period for all 50 officers, and will be included in future operating budgets for the Austin Police Department, should the Council accept the full grant and add 50 new officers.)
