CITY COUNCIL WORKSESSION MINUTES Austin City Council MINUTES WORKSESSION WEDNESDAY, APRIL 3, 2002 The following represents the actions taken by the Austin City Council in the order they occurred during the meeting. While the minutes are not in sequential order, all agenda items were discussed. The City Council of Austin, Texas convened in a Work Session on Wednesday, April 3, 2002 at One Texas Center, 505 Barton Springs Road, third floor training room, Austin, Texas. Mayor Garcia called the meeting to order at 10:09 a.m. EXECUTIVE SESSION 1. Discuss legal issues related to Kirk Mitchell v. Daryl Slusher and Shirley Brown in her Official Capacity as City Clerk for the City of Austin, Cause No GN200979 in the 345th Judicial District Court of Travis County, Texas, (suit seeking to prevent the City from placing a council candidate's name on the May 4, 2002, election ballot). There was no discussion on this item. BRIEFINGS 2. Update from the Solid Waste Department and Health and Human Services Department regarding odor complaints in Northeast Austin around the landfills located on Giles Rd. The presentation was made by Lisa Gordon, Assistant City Manager; Willie Rhodes, Director of Solid Waste Services; and David Lurie, Director of the Health Department. 3. Approval of ballot language and number order for the citizen initiated "Austin Fair Elections Act" charter amendment, relating to campaign finance, for placement on the May 4, 2002, ballot. The motion to reaffirm Council's approval of the ballot language was approved on Council Member Wynn's motion, Council Member Slusher's second on a 6-0 vote. Mayor Pro Tern Goodman was off the dais. 4. Discuss a division of the City into eight council districts for the election of council members in the event that the proposed charter amendment for a City Council made up of eight council members elected from single-member districts, two council members elected from the City at large, and a Mayor elected from the City at large is adopted by the voters. The presentation was made by John Steiner, Assistant City Attorney, and Ryan Robinson, City Demographer. 12/22/05 3:05 PM CITY COUNCIL WORKSESSION MINUTES The motion to adjourn the meeting at 11:10 a.m. was approved on Council Member Slusher's motion, Mayor Garcia's second on a 7-0 vote. The minutes of the worksession of April 3, 2002 and the regular meeting of April 4, 2002 were approved on Council Member Wynn's motion, Mayor Garcia's second by a 4-0 vote.
