MINUTES OF CITY COUNCIL WORKSESSION NOVEMBER 20,2002 Austin City Council MINUTES WORKSESSION WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 20,2002 The following represents the actions taken by the Austin City Council in the order they occurred during the meeting. The City Council of Austin, Texas convened in a Work Session on Wednesday, November 20, 2002 at One Texas Center, 505 Barton Springs Road, 3RD Floor Training Room, Austin, Texas. Mayor Garcia called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. Briefings 1. Report by the Austin Child Care Council on its goals, work and accomplishments regarding childcare, early education, and family support services. The presentation was made by Rhonda Paver, Chair of the Austin Child Care Council, and Dr. Joan Burnham, Chair of the Policy Development and Research Committee, of the Austin Child Care Council. 2. Mayor's Task Force on the Economy: Presentation on Relationship of Growth Management and Economic Vitality (Bill Hudnut, Senior Fellow, Urban Land Institute). The presentation was made by Council Members Wynn and Dunkerley, and Bill Hudnut, Urban Land Institute. 4. Presentation by members of the Hospital District Steering Committee regarding community effort to form a hospital/health care district. The presentation was made by Clarke Heidrick, Chair, and Committee Members Rafael Quintanilla, David Hilgers, Judge Guy Herman, and Lowell Lebermann, Vice Chair. Other Committee Members present were: Lew Little, Ed Adams, and Gary Valdez. Mike McDonald, Assistant City Manager, was also present. MINUTES OF CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION 2 NOVEMBER 20,2002 3. Mayor's Task Force on the Economy: Briefing to outline Austin's economic context, relative strengths, the role of the City in leveraging Austin's strengths, and recommending a comprehensive economic action plan. The presentation was made by Council Members Wynn and Dunkerley and John Hockenyos, Texas Perspectives Inc. The motion to adjourn the meeting at 11:55 a.m. was approved on Council Member Alvarez* motion, Council Member Slusher's second on a 5-0 vote. Mayor Pro Tern Goodman was absent and Council Member Thomas was off the dais. The minutes for November 20, 2002 were approved on December 5, 2002 on Mayor Pro Tern Goodman's motion, Council Member Dunkcrley's second on a 7-0 vote.
