>> Tovo: Welcome back. In executive session the committee took up one item, item 2, to I want have candidates for possible nomination to the municipal civil service commission. Today's date is may 4. In closed session we took up and discussed a personnel matter related to the nominations for the municipal civil service commission. And we did interview the members that you see before you, councilmember pool, vice chair troxclair, councilmember Renteria and myself did interview the candidates and committee will now entertain a motion if any member of the committee wishes to make one. >> I'd be happy to make a motion. >> Tovo: Councilmember pool. >> Pool: I move that we refer for recommendation the nomination of two of the six people that we interviewed today being Michael Murphy and late detaily. >> Tovo: The audit and finance committee nominate them to serve three year terms as members of the municipal service commission and present these to the full council. That motion seconded by councilmember Renteria. Committee members, is there discussion? >> Just to say that I appreciated everyone coming in and spending -- the questions that we had for them. We had an excellent panel of choices and it's always a great thing to see the
[12:15:38 PM]
commitment in community service from folks here in Austin. >> Renteria: And I'll second that and also we had some very good candidates and it was very difficult choices, but, you know, we want to -- I want to thank all the candidates that came before us because I knew that all of them would be qualified, but these two just stood out just a little bit more than the rest so that's why I second the recommendation. >> Tovo: Thank you, councilmember Renteria. >> This commission is a significant time commitment and I'm grateful we live in a city where we have so many people willing and able to dedicate their time and energy to the city and to this commission so I agree with the comments of all the candidates were great. I appreciated getting to know all of them. I hope they all will seek other ways to be involved in our community and support the motion. >> Tovo: Yeah, I agree and concur with my colleagues' comments. We had a very strong panel and I really hope that we see the individuals, all of the individuals get involved in other commissions or other ways within the city of Austin. So again, this is just a recommendation to the full city council who will consider these nominations on may 14th. So without -- there is no further business before us. Councilmember pool. >> Pool: Would you like us to vote at all on that -- >> Tovo: Oh, yes, I think we should. And then I am reminded there is another order of business. We have a motion and a second on the table. All in favor? And that's unanimous on the dais. We have another order of business before us and that is we have an opportunity to
[12:17:39 PM]
select the chair of this commission. We do have a recommendation that's been forwarded to us from the municipal civil service commission members as they are currently comprised and that Ms. Kennedy, would you remind us of our history on that front. >> Hi, Rebecca Kennedy, acting assistant director for human resources department. The commission at their last meeting did recommend that commissioner Lancaster to serve as the next chair of the commission. >> Tovo: Thank you very much. Commission, I mean committee members, is there an interest in -- >> I'll make a motion to accept the recommendation of the commission. >> Tovo: Thank you, vice chair troxclair recommends. >> I would be happy to second that. >> Tovo: This is a recommendation to full council. Will we have this on our full council agenda on the 14th? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Tovo: Soup -- super. All in favor? That's unanimous as well. Do we have any other business before us? All right.
