ATX Land Use Shuffle: Postponements & Approvals
- Austin City leaders are actively working to streamline their upcoming agenda, aiming to reduce the number of items requiring extensive debate.
- Dozens of routine land development and zoning requests, including an "Imagine Austin" item, are expected to be approved quickly without opposition.
- Several complex and potentially contentious land-use cases, such as a historic district designation (Castle Hill) and specific property developments (like the Ukrainian Church site and Sunrise Pharmacy), are slated for postponement.
- The council faces a challenge in rescheduling these postponed items, as future agendas are already packed, with one upcoming meeting potentially having 78 items.

>> While we're waiting for ed to come back down so we can start the budget, I'm going to convene our work session for Thursday's land development cases. For the purpose of seeing how much we have to, if any, do on Thursday so we can get a feel for whether we can lessen our load on Thursday. Of course, we'll be done with the budget by then but we'll be very tired. Craig, can you talk to us about what's on the agenda for Thursday and if there's anything we can't or you don't think we should put off. >> Thank you, mayor and council. Greg with the planning and zoning department of of. Of the items related to zoning, imagine Austin and site plan for the development services department, 22 could be offered for consent approval. We believe that was parties are in agreement with the staff and commission's recommendation. There's no opposition and the imagine Austin item will be met with consent. Item 43 is a site plan appeal. And parties have not yet figured everything out. That would be a postponement. That would leave 8, discussion item -- eight discussion items and I understand earlier councilmember pool had mentioned early in the meeting today that she was going to ask council for postponement, but I'm not sure the disposition of that item but of the eight -- or seven remaining discussion items we could off those also for postponement until next week, to the 17th agenda. You can certainly postpone them to October but then you'll have a lengthy agenda in October.

>> Mayor Adler: How does the agenda look on the 17th? >> That I don't know. We could ask the lecture what the agenda is like on the 17th. >> Mayor Adler: We can take a look that the in a little bit. >> Okay. >> Mayor Adler: My sense is that the council as going to want to move forward on the 22 things we can approve by consent. Either postponements or approvals. My sense is that we'll probably put off the others. And in the meantime, look at the calendar to see if it makes more senses to go a week or longer than a week. Councilmember kitchen. >> Kitchen: The eight items you -- would you mind reading off the Numbers if you have that in front of you? >> The first two, most likely shall discussion is item 21 and 22. These are for the properties on Justin lane. You use cranian united presbyterian church. 21 and 22. The next one we believe is a discussion is item 36. Item number 36 is 620 north -- expenditured a couple. 27 and 87. And it's the hopper Finley tract. Item 27. Item 28 is the item that councilmember pool had mentioned. That is the mmk ventures on cedar bend boulevard. Okay, I guess that's it. We also had -- I had 19 and 20 are going to be consent for postponement. So item number 40 is castle hill. This is the historic case, castle hills historic district.

At 1614 blanco. That will be a discussion item. And I think that's all I had for discussion. Thank you. >> Mayor. >> Mayor Adler: Yes. >> There are 78 items on the draft agenda for next week. >> Mayor Adler: Okay. >> Mayor, I have a question. Mr. Guernsey. >> Did you say item 23 was for discussion. That one is staff does not recommend approval? >> 23 and 24 are also discussion. It's something called sunrise pharmacy on benette avenue and the St. John's neighborhood. >> Mayor Adler: So I'm confused. The ones we anticipate work postponed are 19 and 20, 21 and 22, 27, 28, 36 and 40? >> And 23 and 24. >> Mayor Adler: Thank you. We are waiting for ed to walk down. He's close to coming back down. Ed is very exacting. We told him for our purposes here, close would be good enough so we can get a feel. I've suggested to him that even if we were to finish by 6:00 tonight we would give him and the staff the night to work through the Numbers so they don't have to be on top of it and -- so regardless, we'll give him the night. So we'll hold until he comes back. We're close.
