It's Tuesday, may 16th, 2023. At 12:11 P.M. I will call to order the Austin city council for a special meeting of the Austin city council. There is a necessary quorum of the Austin city council for this meeting. We are meeting in the council chambers at 301 west second street in Austin, Texas. I don't believe we have anybody attending, virtually, do we? Not at this time, mayor. Okay, very good. Members under state law only two council members are necessary for a quorum to canvass an election. And we have one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. Members of the council here with us. We will now take up item number one to approve a resolution Ann canvasing the results of the may 6th, 2023, special election. As in the special election burns the return of the election show that there were. Five 53,258 votes in [12:12:14 PM] favor or four and 13,931 votes against Ernst proposition a there were 12,951 votes for Shaw and 53,450 votes against proposition B. Before we take up a motion on this item, let me ask the city clerk's office if there is anyone who has signed up to speak on this item. Mayor, we don't have anyone signed up to speak. Thank you very much. That being the case, the chair will entertain the following motion Ann to approve the resolution on canvasing and accepting the returns for the may six, 2023, special election is declaring proposition a is adopted and declaring proposition B is not adopted. The mayor pro tem moves passage into second by council member qadri. Is there any discussion [12:13:14 PM] on the item? Yes councilmember Fuentes. Thank you, mayor. I just want to thank everyone who participated in the election. I think Austin ites have made it abundantly clear that austinites want a accountable and transparent and robust police oversight system. So I look forward to the conversations we'll have as a council on this subject. But just want to thank everyone for participating, for voting, and for making your voice heard on this issue.
